Home Rule and Prosperity: Why The DC Chamber of Commerce and Business Leaders Must Take a Stand

The DC Chamber of Commerce strongly opposes any efforts to revoke the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, as doing so would have severe economic and business consequences. Enacted in 1973, the Home Rule Act established a locally elected mayor and council, providing stability and autonomy critical to fostering a pro-business environment. Any attempt to repeal this act threatens to destabilize governance, create uncertainty for businesses, and undermine decades of economic growth.
