The District has attracted the interest of investors from across the country and around the world. Directly investing into Washington, DC, creates the opportunity for outside firms to bring new and innovative practices to the city and region, which is ripe with federal contracting opportunities.

 The District’s economic development initiatives are guided by these agencies and organizations, and they are critical resources for companies seeking to move their businesses into DC for the first time or to expand their operations inside the District.

The DC Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED) is responsible for creating jobs and increasing the District’s tax base by attracting domestic and foreign businesses and investors. It tracks development projects within the District, as well as provides insights for companies seeking to relocate here.

The DC Department of Employment Services (DOES) provides job seekers with a number of employment opportunities. Each center provides career counseling, resume assistance, job placement, vocational training, access to online services, information about local and national labor markets, unemployment insurance, and much more.

The DC Department of Small and Local Business Development works closely with local businesses to provide strategic support and services to help business owners and entrepreneurs realize their goals.

DC Office of Planning performs planning for neighborhoods, corridors, districts, historic preservation, public facilities, parks and open spaces, and individual sites. In addition, OP engages in urban design, land use, and historic preservation review. OP also conducts historic resources research and community visioning, and manages, analyzes, maps, and disseminates spatial and US Census data.

The Washington, DC Economic Partnership is an important point of contact for development and business opportunities in the District of Columbia. WDCEP partners with all parties—public and private, foreign or domestic—that are interested in locating new businesses in the District.

Events DC is the official convention and sports authority for the District of Columbia, and is spearheading development activities on DC-controlled property within the District, including the 190-acre RFK Stadium development. It also is the face of conventions and sports, entertainment and cultural events in our nation’s capital.

Destination DC serves as the lead organization to successfully market Washington, DC, as a premier global convention, tourism, and special events destination, with a special emphasis on the arts, cultural and historical communities.

District of Columbia Hospital Association is a non-profit organization with a mission to provide leadership to improve the health care system in the District and advocate for the interests of member hospitals as they support the interests of the community.

The Greater Washington Board of Trade addresses business concerns that span geographic boundaries. Pro-business and bipartisan, the Board of Trade convenes business, civic, and government leaders to collaborate on important issues throughout the District of Columbia, Suburban Maryland and Northern Virginia.

The Hotel Association of Washington, D.C. represents the interests of over 90 member hotels in the District of Columbia on a variety of governmental and public affairs issues.

The Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington is the regional trade association representing restaurants and the food service industry in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area.
