Speaker: Jessica Childress

Ms. Childress holds a Bachelor of Arts in Government and African American Studies from the University of Virginia and a Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law. Ms. Childress graduated Phi Beta Kappa and with High Distinction from the University of Virginia in 2007. Ms. Childress is the managing attorney of the Childress Firm PLLC, a law firm based in Washington, D.C., focusing on employment law. Additionally, Ms. Childress is the Chief Executive Dreamer of Juris Prudence LLC, a children’s content company that produces educational products and services, teaching children about the law and leadership through fictional 11-year-old lawyer, Juris P. Prudence. Juris Prudence LLC is based on Ms. Childress’ first children’s book, The Briefcase of Juris P. Prudence, a fictional novel about an eleven year-old lawyer who fights for children’s right to vote.

Ms. Childress has served as an attorney at the United States Department of Justice and two global law firms. Ms. Childress is active in multiple civic organizations. She has served as the chair of the Scholarship Committee for the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Alumni Association’s Board of Directors, on the Membership Committee of the National Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division, and she currently serves as a member of the Legal Aid Justice Center Advisory Council. In 2016, Ms. Childress was invited to attend the White House’s United State of Women Summit, focusing on issues of gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Ms. Childress has been honored with the National Bar Association’s 40 under 40 Best Advocates Award, recognized as one of the top 100 black attorneys by the National Black Lawyers organization, honored as a 2017 “Rising Star” by the Greater Washington Area Chapter of the National Bar Association’s Women’s Division, and she was honored as the 2018 Young Lawyer of the Year by the Washington Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division. In 2018, the National Bar Association also honored Ms. Childress with the Young Lawyer of the Year Award. Ms. Childress has been named on the Washington, D.C. Super Lawyers Rising Stars List for the years 2020, 2021, and 2022. Ms. Childress has been featured in multiple media outlets, including Forbes, Essence, NPR, Huffington Post, Success, Blavity, Good Morning America, and Entrepreneur.
