As of March 2023, the federal public health emergency ended, and the special COVID-19 pandemic protections are no longer in effect. This change prompted states nationwide to restart the regular Medicaid coverage renewal process. Consequently, individuals no longer eligible for Medicaid must transition to another form of health coverage.

Given the significant number of DC employees losing Medicaid coverage, your role in aiding their transition to alternative coverage is crucial.

If your employees are facing or will soon face the loss of Medicaid coverage, you can play an important part in the transition process by ensuring they are aware of the private insurance options as an option. These options include plans through the Affordable Care Act marketplace (DC Health Link) or employer-sponsored coverage.
