The DC Chamber Supports Mayor Bowser’s Affordable Housing Legislation

WASHINGTON (April 7, 2025) – The DC Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the District of Columbia Department of Insurance, Securities, & Banking (DISB) and the Department of Small Local Business Development (DSLBD), will host the 2025 Small Business Summit & Expo: Resiliency During Uncertain Times on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Washington, DC is an international hub for global businesses. As the nation’s capital, DC is not only home to the federal government, but over 170 international embassies that shape national and global policy, more than 550 international companies, world-renowned universities, and the headquarters of international financial institutions like the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the Inter-American Development Bank.

The DC Chamber of Commerce strongly opposes any efforts to revoke the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, as doing so would have severe economic and business consequences. Enacted in 1973, the Home Rule Act established a locally elected mayor and council, providing stability and autonomy critical to fostering a pro-business environment. Any attempt to repeal this act threatens to destabilize governance, create uncertainty for businesses, and undermine decades of economic growth.
